Although doubtful it would go ahead, 18 teams turned out for the long weekend competition. Winners on the day were the father son combination of Steve/Graham Fishlock with 54 points + 21 shots up from the Di Harder/Liz Johns team who, with two hard fought wins, survived a count-back on 53 +18 shots up for the runners up prize.
The Fishlock’s win was not without drama either. After a comfortable 9-2 ends win in the first game, they jumped to a 5-1 lead after 4 ends in the second game; the opposition fought back to tie the score at 7 all and lead 5 ends to 4 after the 9th end. The opposition Skip drew shot to within 10 inches of the Jack with his last bowl. Match on the line, Graham, (noted for his stoicism during a match), stepped to the mat, looked to the heavens, closed his eyes and dropped a “yard-over” wobbler towards the head. The bowl finally found its line about 8 yards out and whispered past the shot bowl, trailing the jack for a 4-shot win. It was only then, that for the first time in the game, he was able to produce a smile. Well done, Graham!
