The last round of pennant competitions was played on Saturday 7th March with all Five Modbury sides winning their respective matches. For three sides the wins meant appearances in finals competition.
Division 1 side’s away win over Henley saw them reach the coveted top spot and will now host the first round of finals at Modbury and will play Marion for a grand final spot and promotion to Premier Division.
Division 4 North travelled to West Lakes for their win to finish in Third place and will face the same side in a knockout final at Para Hills next Saturday.
Division 5 North had a strong win at home to leapfrog Clearview into fourth spot. Their finals opponent should be Two Wells with the venue still to be advised.
Division 6 (do not play finals), travelled to Kensington for their win and finished in Second position on the ladder, an agonising 4 points short of winning their division pennant. Congratulations to this side who always suffer badly from the many changes which occur almost on a weekly basis to the sides above them throughout the season.
Division 2 side will not play finals; however, their win was just as important, especially for the sides below. This side was fighting to avoid relegation and their defeat of Marion, (needing a win to play finals) move them from the relegation zone to 8th position with 8 wins for the season. Their two ONE- point losses probably cost this side a finals place.
Div.2 avoiding relegation was doubly important for the Div. 4 side as they now have the opportunity to gain promotion to Division 3. Promotion for Div. 4 will also give both Div. 5 and Div. 6 promotion opportunities.
The season has just become very interesting for the Modbury club and members are asked to get along and support these sides in their promotion endeavours.
